To celebrate another memorable year for DC, we’ve once again asked five of our most active DC.com writers to look back and choose their three personal DC favorites of 2025. Look for a different writer’s 2025 Top Three every day this week!

Did everyone enjoy 2025? I hope you all went on some great adventures this year because I know I did. I spent the year exploring dimensional portals, solving riddles from a newspaper columnist and discovering the hidden secrets of my past. Okay, it’s possible these experiences happened to Peacemaker, Batman and Donna Troy, but I had such a great time experiencing them that it felt like I was there too. DC gave me plenty of great stories to enjoy this year, and these three stood out for me. (Note that there are some spoilers in my second Peacemaker paragraph, so maybe skip that one if you haven’t yet seen it.)

Peacemaker

After a three year wait, Peacemaker returned for a second season and what a glorious ride it was. The show made my Top Three list in 2022 when it debuted, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that its second chapter was one of my favorite DC releases this year. We had some great comedic moments between Chris Smith and the rest of the 11th Street Kids, but the drama is where this season really shone. By the fifth episode, there were barely any jokes in the episodes, but the performances were so compelling that you never really noticed.

From Chris’s heart to heart with Harcourt in the park, to Rick Flag’s brutal interrogation, the show pulled no punches (literally). And then there was the Earth-X reveal in episode six, the Lex Luthor cameo and the season’s surprise ending, which found Chris stranded in Salvation. I also need to give a special shoutout to Danielle Brooks, who gave the performance of a lifetime during the Leota/Keeya breakup scene. Oh, and as a Stargirl fan, it was cool to see the Blue Valley set again (even if it was on a Nazi planet). Peacemaker season two brought laughter, Easter eggs, explosive action and heartbreaking drama.

Batman: Revolution

Reading Batman: Revolution made me feel like I had gone home. John Jackson Miller’s novel perfectly captures the world of Tim Burton’s Batman, bringing me back to my childhood. Like Miller’s previous novel Batman: Resurrection, the story is set in between Batman and Batman Returns. Resurrection shows us what a Tim Burton version of the Riddler would’ve felt like, plus some other characters who I won’t spoil here.

If you’re a fan of the Michael Keaton Batman films, there’s a lot to love here. For example, there’s an Alexander Knox moment that finally pays off a joke from his first meeting with Bruce Wayne. Miller writes Batman so perfectly that you can practically hear Keaton’s voice in your head. As I made my way through the book, I found myself imagining that I was a kid and this was a ’90s era tie-in novel that I had picked up from my old local library. It was a good feeling, and it’s great when a story can give that to you.

Titans 2025 Annual #1

Titans 2025 Annual #1 was one of the biggest surprises of the year for me. I’m a stickler for continuity, and I can be very unforgiving when modern comics rewrite history, but that’s not what this comic did. The story explores Donna Troy’s origin, and before you say, “been there, done that,” you should know that the comic actually finds new and interesting things to say about the character’s backstory. Best of all, Phil Jimenez, who wrote and illustrated the issue, does all this without overwriting what came before.

Titans 2025 Annual #1 acts as a spiritual sequel to Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s “Who is Donna Troy” story from 1984’s The New Teen Titans #38. To my surprise, Jimenez found some unanswered questions from that classic story, solving one of the biggest and long-running mysteries about Donna’s past. He even gives new (and heartbreaking) context to a moment he illustrated in JLA/Titans almost thirty years ago.

The issue is a true love letter to Titans history. Phil, if you’re reading this, I have to imagine George Pérez would have been very proud of this issue. Thank you for creating it.
