As of today, it’s officially been a month since Superman landed in theaters. I’m going to assume you’ve seen it by now. Heck, if you’re like me, you’ve already seen it five times. David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult have officially welcomed us to the DC Studios era of DC movies and TV. With a shared superhero universe that already feels so robust and active—due in no small part to its supporting characters, like Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner—you may already be counting down the days to what’s next.

So…what is next, exactly?

DC Studios has a lot of exciting new projects on the horizon. Let’s check in on the ones that we know are in production, and what may await us in them.

Peacemaker

We’re just ten days away from the premiere of Peacemaker’s second season and it’s going to be explosive. James Gunn, John Cena and the rest of the cast recently traveled to San Diego Comic-Con, where they premiered a new trailer for the upcoming season. There’s a lot to unpack in its two and a half minutes, like the other dimensions, Rick Flag Jr.’s funeral and whatever those giant skull things are.

If you haven’t already, you should also watch the season two teaser that was released in May. It begins with Peacemaker trying out for the Justice Gang, complete with appearances from Sean Gunn, Nathan Fillion and Isabela Merced as Maxwell Lord, Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl. Not only does this solidify the show’s place in Superman’s shared DC Universe, but it’s a funny sequence.

One throughline for both trailers is the return of Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., who seems to have his sights set on Peacemaker. I guess he’s not over the whole “Peacemaker killing his son” thing. (Can’t say we blame him!) With this appearance, Rick Flag Sr. has become the only DC character to appear in all three DC Studios projects so far. The new season will premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025.

How to Prepare: If you haven’t done so already, watch the first season. It’s a lot of fun, surprisingly emotional and you may be genuinely delighted by some of the people who drop by. You should also check out HBO Max’s Creature Commandos for some additional backstory on Rick Flag Sr. Like Peacemaker, Creature Commandos is a spinoff of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, so they share some DNA.

If you’re looking to dive deeper into Peacemaker as a character, then check out the 2023 DC Black Label series Peacemaker Tries Hard. While it’s not canon to the show, it does capture the tone perfectly. Finally, you should also check out Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature, another limited series that’s heavily informed by the HBO Max series. How so? Well, James Gunn serves as a story consultant and Peacemaker’s Freddie Stroma contributes an entry from Vigilante’s diary.

Supergirl

You met Supergirl at the end of Superman, now get ready for her to take the spotlight next summer with her own film. James Gunn marked the beginning of the movie’s production by sharing a behind-the-scenes picture of Supergirl actress Milly Alcock reading a copy of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the comic which the Craig Gillespie-directed film is adapting. Jason Momoa also shared an Instagram video announcing that he had wrapped filming as Lobo, and he seemed pretty excited.

And if that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, Gunn recently shared a teaser poster for the film. The image gives us a closer look at Milly’s Supergirl suit and immediately recaptures Kara’s irreverent spirit from her Superman cameo in the way she’s defaced her cousin’s “Look Up” tagline. Supergirl is DC Studios’ next film and will be flying into theaters June 26, 2026.

How to Prepare: If you haven’t already, then you should definitely check out King and Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. If you want to get to know Lobo (who, notably, does not appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), I’d suggest reading some of the Alan Grant and Keith Giffen’s stories from the ’90s. They’re the gold standard for the character, setting the template for every subsequent comic. You can start with the Lobo: Portrait of a Bastich graphic novel collection. And, obviously, you should also check out Superman since one thing the film will likely illustrate is the difference between Supergirl and her famous cousin.

Clayface

One of the things I love about this new version of the DC Universe is how it’s going to redefine our idea of what a comic book film can be. Clayface is a great example of this, because instead of giving us a typical superhero film for DC Studios’ third theatrical release, we’re getting a horror movie set in the DC Universe.

Clayface is directed by James Watkins and written by Hossein Amini and Mike Flanagan. Yes, THAT Mike Flanagan. Tom Rhys Harries has been cast in the titular role, but beyond that, we don’t know too much about it other than that James Gunn has said it has a lot of body horror influences. Clayface is expected to hit theaters September 11, 2026.

How to Prepare: Before he was a shapeshifting mud monster, Clayface was a serial killer who targeted Hollywood horror stars. If you like horror, then you should check out that version of the character in 1940’s Detective Comics #40. If you want to see horror and drama blend to make one of the best Clayface stories ever, watch the Batman: The Animated Series two-parter “Feat of Clay.”

Lanterns

You met Guy Gardner in Superman, now get ready to meet two more members of the Green Lantern Corps—John Stewart and Hal Jordan. James Gunn marked the start of production for this new TV series by sharing a first look photo of Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as John and Hal. I know I’m not the only one who zoomed in to get a closer look at Hal’s power ring.

Gunn and his DC Studios partner Peter Safran have previously described Lanterns as an Earth-based detective story, and while it sounds like that hasn’t changed, we do know that actor Ulrich Thomsen has been cast as iconic villain Sinestro, so the series will at least nod to the Green Lanterns’ cosmic background. Other cast members include Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Jason Ritter, Paul Ben-Victor and Chris Coy. And yes, Nathan Fillion will also be returning as Guy Gardner. Expect Lanterns to drop on both HBO and HBO Max in 2026.

How to Prepare: To get a sense of Hal Jordan and John Stewart’s relationship in the comics, you should check out their first meeting in 1971’s Green Lantern #87. The story and the dialogue may be a bit dated in some places, but it changed the course of Green Lantern history and holds up well. If you’re looking for something more modern, then check out Green Lantern: No Fear, a story arc which serves as a great character study for Hal Jordan. Finally, when Lanterns was first announced, it was accompanied by art from Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko’s Green Lantern: Earth One, a two-volume standalone series that also featured Jordan and Stewart. While Lanterns isn’t an adaptation of the series, its grittier and more grounded take on the characters may share a similar tone.

Dynamic Duo

Item: Attendees of CinemaCon 2025 got an exclusive first look at footage from Dynamic Duo, an upcoming animated film featuring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. (Yes, we should all be very jealous.) The film, which is produced by Swaybox Studios, will be a mix of CGI animation and stop motion puppetry and is set to be DC Studios’ first theatrically released animated feature.

How to prepare: Dynamic Duo will focus on the relationship between Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. To get a sense of their dynamic (no pun intended) in the comics, check out 1987’s Batman #416 and Nightwing: Year One.

Creature Commandos

If you slept on the first season of Creature Commandos, now’s the time to change that! Season two of this animated HBO Max series is currently in pre-production, and while it’s still early in the process, showrunner Dean Lorey gave us some hints of what to expect during a TVLine interview. According to Lorey, they’re still figuring out who the team will be, but what we saw in the season one finale will likely be a good indication. If that’s the case, I’m excited to see how the Bride will lead the newest incarnation of Task Force M. While James Gunn is busy running a studio, Lorey believes the filmmaker—who wrote all of season one—will be writing some of the season two episodes as well.

How to Prepare: Watch season one, obviously. Superman and season two of Peacemaker may also provide some backstory to Creature Commandos’ second season, since both feature Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., who led the Task Force M team in season one. While there’s no guarantee Flag will be in Creature Commandos season two, seeing his story play out will give us a clear understanding of the future of Task Force M.

That’s just a quick snapshot of everything currently in production, and one thing to note is that we didn’t include DC Studios productions that aren’t set within the shared DC Universe, like Matt Reeves’ 2027 sequel to The Batman and upcoming animated series like Starfire and My Adventures with Green Lantern. Keep your eyes peeled because news about additional DC movies and films seems to break every day…but don’t worry if you miss anything. We’ll have you covered here at DC.com!
