In a city as big and as bustling as Gotham, it’s pretty hard to stand out. To stop people in their tracks and command their attention. To offer something memorable that will get people buzzing as soon as they set eyes on it. It’s not easy to do, even for the most noteworthy of us.

But Leslie Grace just made it look simple.

The Batgirl actress shared our first image of her in the batsuit this evening and it looks like it stepped right off the comic page. Barbara Gordon fans will instantly recognize the blue-and-yellow suit with the full cowl as inspired by Babs’ beloved “Batgirl of Burnside” look, which still stands as one of her most memorable suits of all time. Also note that Grace’s Batgirl, just like Barbara in the comics, has red hair.

Grace shared the image with a quote that encapsulates who Barbara Gordon is from Batgirl’s defining 2003 storyline Batgirl: Year One: “I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me… And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts.”

Batgirl stars In the Heights' Grace in the title role, along with J.K. Simmons reprising his Justice League role as her father, Commissioner Gordon. Brendan Fraser is on tap to play the movie’s villain, Firefly, while Michael Keaton will appear as an older Batman, a role he’ll also play in the upcoming The Flash. Earlier this week, Rebecca Front, Corey Johnson and Ethan Kai were also confirmed for the film, but their roles are currently being kept under wraps. Batgirl was scripted by Birds of Prey’s Christina Hodson and is directed by the Bad Boys for Life directing duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (who last year appeared during DC FanDome to discuss it). Look for Batgirl to make its debut on HBO Max, though the actual release date is still to be announced.
