Let’s hope Clark is keeping those boots washed.
The James Gunn-directed Superman hit theaters this summer and quickly flew to the top of the box office, driven by stellar reviews and excellent word of mouth. Featuring the debut of David Corenswet as the Kryptonian hero, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, it also marked the official launch of DC Studios’ new shared DC Universe.
That universe is continuing to expand this fall through the second season of Gunn’s Peacemaker on HBO Max, but fans worldwide have been wondering when we might see Corenswet’s Kal-El again. Well, it turns out we won’t have to wait quite as long as we may have thought.
Gunn, Corenswet and Hoult all took to social media today to announce Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to this summer’s blockbuster, which will be arriving in theaters on July 9, 2027, almost exactly two years after the release of Superman.

While little is known about the just-announced film other than the title and the release date, the fact that Hoult was part of the announcement and all three members of the Superman team accompanied their announcements with illustrations featuring both Superman and Lex Luthor (Gunn’s illustration is by Jim Lee, Hoult’s is by Mitch Gerads and Corenswet’s is by Jorge Jiménez—whose highly anticipated Batman #1 also just happens to release today) would seem to suggest that Hoult’s Luthor will be returning for the sequel. Also of note is that in all three illustrations, Luthor is wearing his iconic green and purple warsuit. Does that mean we might see him in it in Man of Tomorrow? Only time will tell.
DC Studios’ next theatrical release, Supergirl, hits theaters next summer, meaning that fans of the Super-Family will be enjoying three consecutive years of movies featuring the House of El, something that’s never before been done since the debut of the characters. Next year will also see the release of Clayface, a horror-tinged film telling the story of the iconic Batman villain.
