THE MAGICAL MYSTERIES OF SHAZAM!

What’s the difference between a great Superman comic and a great Shazam! comic? The Shazam! comic is more likely to have a talking tiger in it! While hanging onto the beloved elements of recent Shazam! reinventions, most significantly Billy Batson’s foster family, The Magical Mysteries of Shazam! is a retelling of the mythology from the beginning with an emphasis on the outlandish silliness of the Captain’s earliest adventures, dialed up to a new magnitude. Billy’s foster city has been transformed into one where anthropomorphic animals and neanderthals live in (relative) harmony among regular humans. MY LITTLE WARLORD

Drawing inspiration from the 1970s sword and sorcery Warlord epic, this DC GO! take on the classic saga of an air force pilot trapped in a world of barbarians, wizards and dinosaurs beneath the surface of the Earth gets a spin here for a new generation of readers. My Little Warlord features disarmingly adorable art and a charming attention to detail in how a man stranded in an unfamiliar jungle survives and builds a life from nothing, day after day. Here, the steady sense of progression that comes from Travis Morgan’s smallest wins, from gathering a bare bones dinner to establishing basic shelter, feel as big as Superman punching out Doomsday.

While most other DC GO! titles take a serialized approach to storytelling, each Taste of Justice installment is a new adventure of flavor, exploring the vast culinary horizons of all your favorite characters. Wally West finding time between battles to get his contribution ready for a school bake sale. Lois Lane enlisting the aid of Jimmy and Perry to cook a special meal for Clark’s birthday. Aquaman using a famous chef’s fish recipe to feed a population displaced by natural disaster. No matter how super you are, you still have to eat. It’s in Taste of Justice’s exploration of our heroes’ preferences and personal relationships with food that lends them a humanity we can take with us on all their other adventures.

WARRIORS AND A WEE WONDER

One of the most fascinating places in the DC Universe is Themyscira, a Paradise Island of immortal philosopher-warriors living in perfect harmony with their land and gods, but also charged with a sacred duty of guarding Doom’s Doorway, preventing the greater world from threats beyond the mortal realm. Warriors and a Wee Wonder takes us back to the earliest years of little princess Diana’s life on the island, when an entire society of Amazons loved and raised this child of blessed clay as their own. The toddling Wonder Tot is an infectious, ever joyful presence, but don’t be fooled—the Warriors come first in this title for a reason.
