For an island known to be a paradise, Themyscira has quickly become a nightmare. Hippolyta has been killed. The palace has been destroyed. The trial to determine who will lead the tribes has been violently cut short. Amazons have turned against Amazons. And a powerful enemy has been revealed to have been at the center of it all—Chaos, one of the earliest and most primordial of gods.

Yes, “Trial of the Amazons,” the first Wonder Woman crossover event in generations has been nothing if not surprising, offering us deeper insights into some of Diana’s friends (who knew Cassie was such a sleuth?) and foes (Artemis, no!). But if it’s done anything, it’s shown us that despite their differences, the Themyscirans, Esquecida and Bana-Mighdall are all sisters at the core. They all share the courage, empathy and faith found in the heart of every Amazon. Respect has developed where once there was only mistrust and new friendships have been forged. Which is all really good because if the Amazons are going to have any shot at defeating Chaos, they’ll need to work together.

Chaos is a god that literally feeds on discord, and sadly, we have plenty of that in the world. He’s powerful and angry at being imprisoned by Diana and determined to take his revenge on her people. But with the spark of unity comes a glimmer of hope. Where before the tribes fighting alongside each other might have seemed unlikely, if not impossible, now it seems inevitable. Almost like it’s destiny, and if Chaos has a rival…well, destiny is likely it. Still, the foundation upon which this united sisterhood of Amazons was built is still pretty new. They’ll likely need more help and will be tested like never before. In fact, perhaps they’ll get their “trial” after all.

It all concludes in next week’s Trial of the Amazons #2, the final chapter of the six-part event. Who will win the war for Themyscira? And if anyone survives, who will lead the Amazons? And will they ever find someone to guard Doom’s Doorway? Check out our exclusive preview of the climactic issue, and don’t forget to pick it up next Tuesday to see how it all wraps up.
