Ready to return to the Rock of Eternity?

Shazam’s big screen adventure may be leaving theaters, but his comic series is still going strong! It returns this week with an issue that features someone who wasn’t in the movie—Black Adam. When last we left the series, the despotic former champion had made his way to the Rock of Eternity, where he discovered Billy and his family missing and the doors to the mysterious Magiclands open. Split up between three of the Magiclands—the amusement park fantasia that is the Funlands, the hostile-to-humans Wildlands and the win-or-die playing field of the Gamelands—the Shazam family is in plenty of danger even without the involvement of Black Adam. But his arrival is likely to make things considerably worse.

Let’s not forget, the last time Shazam and Black Adam fought—in Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s Shazam!: OriginsBlack Adam was defeated, and he’s harbored some serious resentment for Billy ever since. But could his hatred actually be merited? Black Adam feels Billy is acting carelessly and meddling in dangerous things he doesn’t fully understand. And from what we’ve seen of the Magiclands, he may be right. Even the most innocent-sounding ones have proven to be full of threats…and we haven’t even seen the Monsterlands yet. In this exclusive first look at Wednesday’s Shazam! #5, Black Adam makes his intentions known proving that even if Billy does manage to escape the Funlands, his problems are just beginning…

Shazam! #5 by Geoff Johns, Dale Eaglesham, Marco Santucci, Scott Kolins, Max Raynor and Mike Atiyeh is in stores Wednesday.
