The #DCTV Secrets of THE FLASH: Episode 6 – "The Flash...

By Tim Beedle Tuesday, November 18th, 2014

You told me you wouldn't tell anyone my secrets!!!

Did you catch The Flash? We’re talking about the show, not the hero. No one catches the hero. He’s too dang fast.

…Well, except for the other Flashes. They may be able to catch Barry Allen. Also, the Reverse-Flash, I suppose. He can at least keep pace.

Wait…  What are we talking about? Oh yes, this week’s Secrets! Here are the ones that you might have seen flash by…

  • Someone’s built like a Girder…
  • Nothing Flashy about that wharf, is there?
  • Stacy? Why does that sound so familiar?

One Solid Problem

The baddie in this week’s episode was on Mr. Anthony “Tony” Woodward, perhaps better known by his super-villain name, Girder. Much like in the show, Woodward gained his powers after angry workers tossed him in a vat of molten steel. When he emerged, he’d somehow gained the power to turn his body to metal, making him one hard villain to defeat. (Oh yeah, pun fully intended!) Ultimately, he ends up in Iron Heights prison, an ideally named spot for such a hard-minded foe.

Girder was created by Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver, and he’s also been a member of the Rogues at times, meaning it’s possible we haven’t seen the last of him…

Flash fans met Girder for the first time in The Flash: Iron Heights, which can be found in THE FLASH: BLOOD WILL RUN collection.

Keystone’s Historic Garrick’s Wharf

The next time you’re in beautiful Keystone City, be sure to visit historic Garrick’s Wharf. At least, that’s what the sign visible during Barry and Eddie’s visit to the Rusty Iron Brewery suggests. While we can only speculate whom the wharf was named after, we suspect it’s a nod to DC Comics’ very first Flash, Jay Garrick.

Say Hello to Stacy Conwell

Longtime Flash fans may have smiled when Iris referred to her feisty female coworker as “Stace.” That’s a shortened version of Stacy, which in this case refers to Stacy Conwell, a Flash supporting character first introduced in the seventies. In the comics, Stacy Conwell is a college student who becomes pretty close to Barry and Iris. How close she’ll become to them on the show remains to be seen, but judging by her comment on how cute Barry is, it’s clear that she wouldn’t mind spending some more time with him!

If you’re curious about how the show’s Stacy stacks up against her comic book counterpart, she debuted in 1975’s THE FLASH #232.
