If we’ve learned anything from reading Batman comics over the years, it’s that you don’t say no to the Joker. That’s almost certainly not going to end well for you. (Not even if you’re a member of the Bat-Family. Just ask Jason Todd.)

So, it’s a bit surprising to see one of Gotham’s beloved amusement park vendors doing just that in this week’s Detective Comics #1008, and over a hot dog cart of all things. Don’t get us wrong, we love a good Coney as much as anyone and we understand that the loss of a vendor’s cart is the loss of his livelihood, but…c’mon, man. Cut your losses. The Joker is the single most terrifying villain in Batman’s gallery of rogues. Do you really want to end up on his bad side?

In reality, we suspect that the Joker’s latest reign of terror won’t stop with a single hot dog vendor, so it’s a good thing Batman is quick to respond. But something tells us that there’s far more to the Clown Prince of Crime’s motives than simply riding roller coasters and playing carnival games. And considering Detective Comics #1008 kicks off an all-new storyline by Peter J. Tomasi and the phenomenal Doug Mahnke, it’s probably going to take a little time before it’s all revealed. So, we suggest you get in right at the beginning by reading our exclusive first look at this much anticipated new storyline. Enjoy…and maybe steer clear of any hot dog vendors you don’t recognize over the next couple of days? You can never be too safe.

Detective Comics #1008 by Peter J. Tomasi, Doug Mahnke, Jaime Mendoza and Dave Baron is in stores Wednesday.
