Ever get the feeling that your life isn’t quite what it’s supposed to be?

Hey, it happens to the best of us, even Batman, as we discover in this week’s Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #1, the first chapter in James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II’s latest crossover between the Batman and the Heroes on the Half Shell. In this exclusive first look, Batman finds himself in familiar territory—stopping a robbery by a villain named the Laughing Man and his sinister Smile Clan. Only, there’s something not quite right about this masked, ponytailed new rogue. He looks an awfully lot like the Joker. And are those Harley, Deadshot, Clayface and Killer Croc that he’s working with? Why do they look so different? What exactly is going on here?

Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III is, as the title suggests, the third and final Batman/Turtles crossover by this team, and they’re pulling out all the stops. To understand exactly what’s behind this strange new world that the Dark Knight seems to find himself in, look no further than Krang, the extraterrestrial menace with designs on conquering the Earth. To stop Krang, Batman and the Turtles will need a lot more than Batarangs and kung fu. Of course, to even get to Krang, they’ll first need to survive their run-in with this so-called Smile Clan. That WILL take Batarangs and kung fu. So why does Batman seem so distracted?

Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #1 by James Tynion IV, Freddie Williams II and Jeremy Colwell is in stores Wednesday.
