Behind every great moment in every great book—whether it’s a character beat that really just nails it, a perfectly choreographed fight scene or a huge, epic-scaled action blowout with entire galaxies on the line—there is a team of equally great creators pulling all of the strings. We love spotlighting our talented creators here on DCComics.com. We broke a lot of great news on the site this week, and much of it concerned guest artists and creative teams, and we couldn’t be happier. Of course, we were also quite happy to get some details about two upcoming, highly-anticipated storylines, but more on that later…
Here’s what went down this week on the DC Comics website!
We started things off by highlighting DC Collectibles’ new line of high-end custom prints. Have you seen them? The full line-up can be found here. (Though you may want to clear some space on your walls before you check it out. Trust us, you’re going to need it.)
We also announced that starting with the August 22nd installment, artist John Higgins will take on the writing duties for Before Watchmen: The Curse of the Crimson Corsair.
And speaking of The Curse of the Crimson Corsair, we’re still collecting the entire series here on DCComics.com. You can now read the first 20 pages of this exciting nautical horror story, and you can look for new two-page chapters each and every Wednesday.
After that, we unveiled a few variant covers. Check out Rags Morales’ dramatic variant for September’s ACTION COMICS #0. Then take a nice long gander at our two variants for BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE #3, including Mike Allred’s psychedelically sexy group shot.
We also announced some very special—and very talented—guest writers and artists for a few of our more popular titles:
David Lapham will be drawing a standalone issue of Dial H.
And finally, Legion Lost artist Pete Woods will be drawing a high-stakes issue of Aquaman.
In addition, this week saw the release of BATMAN #12, an epilogue to The Court of Owls storyline that was drawn by Becky Cloonan, who also happens to be the first woman to draw an issue of Batman…ever.
While we’re on the subject of Dark Knight creative teams, on Wednesday we announced the upcoming line-up and schedule for Legends of the Dark Knight, our acclaimed Digital First Batman anthology series.
Thursday brought with it another edition of 5.2 Reasons, this time breaking down all the reasons why we should be reading Smallville Season 11.
And finally, we wrapped things up by teasing a couple of highly anticipated storylines. First, Green Lantern editor Matt Idelson dropped a few tidbits about what we can expect from the new Green Lantern and the “Rise of the Third Army” storyline. Then we debuted some new covers as well as some info on “H’el on Earth,” a crossover storyline that will be hitting the pages of Superman, Superboy and Supergirl (emphasis on “hitting”) this November.
