Ever since he was reintroduced, the current Superman and his family of Lois, Jon and Krypto have called the quiet town of Hamilton their home. Similarly, for the duo of Patrick Gleason and Peter J. Tomasi, the bimonthly SUPERMAN comic book has been their creative home since the start of Rebirth in 2016. And in this week’s emotional SUPERMAN #45 (which hits the stands the same day as the landmark ACTION COMICS #1000), all of them are saying goodbye. It’s the end of the Kents’ life in Hamilton, as well as the end of the Superman ongoing until it relaunches in July with Brian Michael Bendis at the helm.

Tomasi and Gleason’s time with Superman has been memorable and surprising, balancing large-scale epics, like the recent “Imperious Lex,” which found the entire family transported to Apokolips, with smaller, personal stories like the two-part “Declaration,” which found Superman and his family exploring our nation’s military history. In these more character focused tales, the cowriters revealed a powerful understanding of Superman as a character and a surprising skill at using the Man of Steel’s inherent kindness and love for his family to…well, occasionally make us cry like babies.

We suspect that issue #45 will be one of those stories. At least, if our exclusive sneak peek is any indication. Enjoy!
