Messages of hope aren't about keeping secrets.
To protect the earth and everyone on it, Kara must push herself in the Supergirl season one finale. She fights a mind-controlled Alex, she records a message of hope, and she prepares to sacrifice herself. Happily, that latter action wasn't necessary. She survives thanks to the assistance of J'onn and her sister. Their fight with Non and Indigo put them in contact with these secrets:

It Keeps the Lights On
Non uses the Omegahedron to power his plot, and it's not the first time we've seen the device on Supergirl—it just happened to be in a different version of Supergirl. The Omegahedron appeared in the 1984 Supergirl film starring Helen Slater. In the movie, it's a piece of technology used to help power Argo City. Besides serving as an unlimited source of energy, it could rearrange matter and manipulate all forms of energy. The Omegahedron worked in tandem with the Alphahedron.
With the Power of a Single Thought
Non and Indigo enslave National City citizens with mind control, and Maxwell Lord works with the DEO to stop them. If he seems like he knows a lot about mind control, maybe that’s because he does…in the comics.
In fact, in past comics Maxwell Lord has been able to control minds himself. Lord gained the power when he was the leader of the Justice League International. He has used the skill on Superman and even went so far as to erase himself from the minds of almost everyone on Earth. Whew! Wielding his ability came with a physical price though, and he eventually had to cut back in order not to risk death.
