Stargirl’s upcoming season is already messing with our minds.

Anyone who caught the Brec Bassinger series’ season one finale likely Shiv-ered in anticipation when the villainous Cindy Burman stole a telltale black diamond and mentioned a familiar name—Eclipso. The longtime DC villain, who first made his debut in the Silver Age, will play a prominent role when Stargirl returns to The CW this summer played by The Expanse actor Nick E. Tarabay. While we’re yet to get a trailer for Stargirl season two, we now know what the mystical villain will look like on the series.

That’ll haunt a few nightmares, for sure. Described by the series as physically imposing and frightening, and brimming with a cold, terrifying darkness. Eclipso exploits the flaws of others, reveling in the impure and sinful, sadistically feeding off the dark side of humanity.

Traditionally, Eclipso is an ancient manifestation of wrath and vengeance that had been imprisoned within a black diamond called the Heart of Darkness. He’s also frighteningly powerful. Eclipso is able to take possession of anyone who holds a shard of the diamond and who possesses even a sliver of hatred in their heart. Even worse, once he’s possessed someone, he can take control of anyone else just by looking at them. This allows his power to spread both quickly and exponentially. In the past, it’s taken the entire Justice League or Justice League Dark to bring down Eclipso—who also just happens to be immortal and unable to be killed. It’s hard to see how young Courtney Whitmore and her very inexperienced superteam will be able to handle him.

Tarabay will be the first actor to bring Eclipso to life in live action, but this won’t be his first DCTV role. Well before 2016’s blockbuster Suicide Squad movie, Tarabay played the character of Digger Harkness—aka Captain Boomerang—in three episodes of Arrow. He also was a regular on both The Expanse and Spartacus and appeared in the movie Pacific Rim: Uprising.

So, Stargirl fans, it’s time to let us know what you think! Are you excited to see Eclipso finally brought to the screen?
