Hal Jordan is not long for this world—at least if we’re to believe what we’re told at the start of The Green Lantern #12, the final issue of Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp’s breathtaking foray into the Green Lantern universe.

True, Hal’s been dead before. A few times, actually. But since his rehabilitation and return as Earth’s greatest Green Lantern, you can’t deny that the world’s much safer with Hal Jordan in it. And with Hal’s anti-matter counterpart known as the Qwa-Man tearing apart (sometimes literally) anything that stands in his way, we’re going to need Hal’s skills pretty badly if the universe is going to stand a chance.

Of course, this is Morrison we’re talking about, so there’s a good possibility that the universe doesn’t stand a chance. Maybe the Qwa-Man is about to usher in a startling and unprecedented new era for Hal Jordan—one that isn’t so “happily ever after” for him and his team. After all, while The Green Lantern is ending, the story Morrison’s telling is just getting started. It’ll next pick up in Green Lantern: Blackstars, Morrison’s follow-up miniseries that launches in November. You can make of that book’s title what you will, but for your first glimmer of what the Qwa-Man’s arrival might mean for Hal and the Green Lantern Corps, we suggest you read this exclusive first look at this week’s issue #12.

The Green Lantern #12 by Grant Morrison, Liam Sharp and Steve Oliff is in stores Wednesday.
