Welcome to week two of four in JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE, where things are going from bad to worse on a cosmic scale—though, really, that's probably not that much of a surprise, right? After all, we are living in a post-shattered Source Wall world. I'd venture a guess that things getting a little dicey is probably to be expected.

Anyway, you know the drill. There are going to be spoilers here from NO JUSTICE #2, so if you're not caught up on the first two issues, stop and read them! Otherwise, let's get going…

This issue is all about Brainiac’s home world of Colu, which also happens to be the home of four extremely large "trees" (...they're trees, but they're also not trees, you know?) and some of the brightest minds in the universe. Well, brightest and historically most evil, but we'll forgive them that last part for right now. After all, their planet is currently under siege by a bunch of giant cosmic titans, so now probably isn't the time to bring up old grudges.

Anyway, the thing about Colu is that its residents have a huge, totally justifiable Brainiac-shaped bruise on their planetary conscious, so they're a little less-than-thrilled to see the Justice League rolling up to help them, despite the circumstances. And who could blame them? So not only does the League have to figure out how to stop the Omega Titans, they have to also convince the people of Colu that they're not there to wipe them all out. Remember how I said things are going from bad to worse? This is only the very tip of that iceberg.

Now about those trees-that-aren't-trees. It turns out that planets have four energy poles that relate to the different cosmic forces that Brainiac explained just before he met his untimely demise at the end of the first issue. (I told you we’re spoiling stuff. So, if you didn’t take that seriously, this is what you get for your lack of trust, you rebel, you.) Colu's most dominant force is, as you could probably expect, Wisdom, but that doesn't mean the other three aren't present, they just need a boost. The end game here is balance, which means the other teams—Entropy, Wonder, and Mystery—have to go find their giant not-trees and wake them up or else the Omega Titans will just consume Colu entirely.

But of course, it's not actually that easy. Here's the thing about the trees: They're all hiding something. Entropy, specifically, is hiding something pretty major and seems to be acting like a giant cosmic prison for a bunch of terrible bad guys. Mystery? That one's got a bunch of shrunken down, previously unknown planets inside of it. So, restarting these trees and releasing this energy basically means that the League is going to be spreading a ton of crazy, unpredictable X-factors all across the galaxy. You know, the same thing they did when their actions punched a hole in the Source Wall in the first place.

It's a really tough position to be in. After all, what do you do when you're a member of an intergalactic force that has otherwise promised to maintain the safety and security of life in the universe, but you're faced with a problem that requires you to do the exact opposite of that? To save Colu (and, really, all worlds), the Justice League now has to make the galaxy an inherently less safe place by unleashing all of these unknowns into it.

Though, honestly, for as anxiety-producing as that thought may be, it certainly does represent a whole lot of "new" for the DC Universe. In the last issue, the Green Lantern Corps had to deal with the fact that the old rule book for the way things work had just gone up in smoke, but it seems like that's going to be the case for just about everyone, even beyond the GLC. The old maps all need to be thrown out—the whole universe is about to get a makeover.

Meanwhile, things on Earth aren't exactly going swimmingly either. This one is totally on me, but I didn't even stop to consider what happened to the heroes that Brainiac hadn't kidnapped. Of course, we learn now that they've gone...into some sort of stasis? And for some reason, Ollie Queen was not put under, which is a mystery in and of itself. Now he and Waller are going to team up, which I can only imagine is going to be totally fine and cause no problems at all.

I mean, it's not like Waller hasn't already thrown a huge wrench into things and activated some of Brainiac's security measures back on Colu and here on Earth, right?

...Right?

See you next week when we’ll unpack issue #3!
