However, they're committed to the whole becoming legends business and devise a new, somewhat unlikely plan to stop Vandal Savage once and for all. Thank Goodness for Distinctive Helmets
When Kendra escapes the grasp of Vandal Savage, she happens to run into a man wearing a helmet she recognizes. She's seen it before in Rip's parlor above the Waverider, and it belongs to the well known war comic character Sgt. Rock. He first appeared as "The Rock" in G.I. COMBAT #68 and then showed up as Sgt. Rock in OUR ARMY AT WAR #83. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, Frank Rock was a World War II veteran, during which he led the Easy Company.
Rock was known for his talent as a marksman (he took down fighter planes with a gun, guys) and for his prowess in melee combat. He didn't technically have super powers like enhanced endurance or strength, but he was always committed to going above and beyond.
This Is Not a Spell
Jax and Stein discover and develop a new ability they then wield in the last stand against Savage: transmutation. Of course, the skill has long been part of Firestorm's resume in the comics. Firestorm can rearrange subatomic particles of any kind of inorganic material to change its shape and composition. Jax and Stein use transmutation to turn one of the three meteors into water.
What Time Is It?
Just when our legends think they can take a day off and celebrate their victory over Savage, a newcomer arrives and he's likely not there just to shake their hands. No, Rex Tyler with the Justice Society of America probably has more serious business. And yes, we did just say the Justice Society of America!
Comics fans might know Rex Tyler as Hourman. He was first introduced in ADVENTURE COMICS #48 in the 1940s. Tyler was a talented scientist with mad skills in the field of biochemistry. While working with vitamins, he discovered Miraclo, a vitamin that provided super strength and speed. But there was a catch! When he took Miraclo, he discovered his extraordinary powers only lasted for an hour. It's a minute problem. Also, it was addictive.
Tyler partook in Miraclo in order to be Hourman and eventually became a founding member of the Justice Society of America. He was also part of the Freedom Fighters and the All-Star Squadron.
