Back in August, MULTIVERSITY COMICS gave you a taste of Howard Porter’s interior art for JUSTICE LEAGUE 3000 #1.

And while the inaugural issue of this eagerly anticipated series doesn’t hit stores until next month, we’ve got another sneak peek at JUSTICE LEAGUE 3000 #1 to share with you today.

So what characters can fans look forward to appearing in the series?

“They're the big five from the Justice League, but in the future,” Porter recently explained to NEWSARAMA. “The approach to the designs was that it's a somewhat dystopian, dark future, yet these are the heroes we know from the current DCU. But they had to look a little bit different because of the setting. It was tricky to do the designs, because they still had to be recognizable. You still had to be able to tell who they were, but you had to be able to tell something was off. There was more direction on the individual characters, but some of the choices that I made in the original designs, if I tell you why… it would probably give away some of the surprises.”

“The Justice League is indeed fully formed and we see them thrown into some pretty intense action by the time you get through the first 6 pages,” the artist continued to COMIC VINE. “We are however jumping in relatively close to the beginning of their adventures together, so there are still more than a few kinks to work out. You can rest assured that we will find out the ‘how and why’ not too far down the road.”

As for the book’s setting?

“In our stories you will see a huge contrast between worlds populated with futuristic technology and those with little more than contraptions that have been cobbled together with salvaged parts. We are treating the environments as if they are supporting characters in the series and attempting to build a unique universe that will hopefully be as identifiable as Gotham or Metropolis,” Porter described to COMICOSITY. “In the very first issue you are immediately thrust into a world that is dirty and archaic and, with the turn of a page, a world that is pristine and serene. I am trying to think very cinematic with the designs, trying to imagine what someone like a Ridley Scott might do.”

“The process for creating this series is very different than anything I have experienced in my career and it's quite reenergizing to try something new. Instead of the standard plot with panel descriptions and dialogue, Giffen draws a rough of the page and with notes, indicates what the dialogue will be about,” Panel said to COMIC BOOK RESOURCES about collaborating with co-writers Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis. "I then draw the page and send it over to DeMatteis, who masterfully dialogues it. I find this to be a real treat because when I read the dialogue it's like getting to experience it as if I was reading someone else's book. Also, working from Keith's layouts is like taking a master's class in storytelling, I feel so fortunate to be learning from one of the all-time greats.”
