Thankfully, all wars end. Usually, we’re pleased and thankful to see them end, though that’s definitely not the case when the war in question is the thrilling crossover event that is “Trinity War.” For the past two months, we’ve followed the mystery, action and tragedy unfolding in the pages of Justice League, Justice League of America and Justice League Dark, eagerly awaiting each new installment. Well, the final shebang is here, and man, let’s just say the emphasis is on the “bang.” Fortunately, as most DC Comics super-fans know, “Trinity War” is just the beginning of the story. We have next month’s villainous “Forever Evil” to look forward to.

Hey, what can we say? As we get closer and closer to Halloween, it’s good to be a little bad!

And speaking of Halloween-like behavior, over in the world of Vertigo we’re celebrating the red, white and blue (but mostly red) with the American Vampire Anthology. You’ve heard about American Vampire, right? It’s the acclaimed, generation-spanning vampire epic by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque, and if you haven’t read it yet, you should change that right now. Of course, if you have read it, you’re probably as hungry for new stories as Skinner is for peppermint. Well, consider this week your candy store. The 80-page American Vampire Anthology features original stories set within the American Vampire universe that are written and drawn by some of the biggest names in comics. How big?

How about Greg Rucka, Gail Simone, Jeff Lemire, Ray Fawkes, Becky Cloonan, Francesco Francavilla…and of course, Messrs. Snyder and Albuquerque? And that’s just to start. Of course, you don’t need to be caught up on the American Vampire ongoing to enjoy the anthology. In fact, you don’t need to have read it at all. It’s new fan friendly. And let’s face it, even the newest fan can appreciate this gorgeous page from Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon’s entry, “Last Night.”

Of course, it’s not all crossovers and anthologies for us this week. There are plenty of new comics to come out of The New 52, including new issues of Aquaman, Batman/Superman, Larfleeze, Talon, Batman: The Dark Knight, The Flash and Superman. Also, don’t miss this week’s BATMAN, INCORPORATED SPECIAL #1, another awesome anthology featuring stories starring various members of Batman, Inc. as told by some superstars of DC Comics.
