With Great Power Comes... Accelerated Aging?
Not everyone rolled a natural 20 after the particle accelerator explosion. Griffin Grey received extraordinary strength, but his new abilities came with a price: rapid aging. He blames Dr. Wells and takes his anger out on Harry. In the comics, Griff was a co-worker and friend of Bart Allen and received his powers from an explosion set off by a disgruntled former employee at Keystone Motors. He first appeared in THE FLASH: THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE #1.
Calling himself The Griffin, he tried again and again to be a beloved hero, including staging catastrophes that he could then stop. He eventually died because his powers caused him to age at unbelievably fast rate.
The Only Place for Your Chemical Needs
Griffin breaks into Ace Chemical in Central City, but fans of DC Comics are used to seeing the business in another setting. The company based in Gotham City was introduced in DETECTIVE COMICS #168 and is known for being the location where The Joker suffered the accident that created his iconic green-haired look.

Without his super speed, Barry has to turn to more traditional methods of stopping villains—like guns. He carries the ML-00X52 into battle against Griffin. We've talked before about the significance of the number 52 in the DC Universe; it's the number of the worlds within the Multiverse, is tied to The New 52 and first appeared as a title of a weekly comic series.
