So in spite of Felicity’s best efforts, Oliver has joined the League of Assassins as heir apparent to The Demon himself. Can’t wait to see how this pans out. But let’s take a moment and explore the League itself in the world of DC Comics.
Ra’s Al Ghul made his first appearance in Batman #232. While the list of known villains who are graduates of the League is extensive, noted alumni include Lady Shiva, the killer David Cain, and Merlyn the Magician. This Merlyn is the one who inspired Oliver Queen to become an archer. Both Merlyn the Magician and Arrow’s Malcolm Merlyn have wound up on the wrong side of the League. The League also trained Cassandra Cain, known on another earth as Batgirl. The league is known for trying to influence the course of human events through destructive methods. Hopefully Oliver will bring some fresh blood to the ancient organization.
