Welcome to What's New in The New 52 – where you, the fans, get a sneak peek at the stuff that crosses our desks. This little feature is a way to keep you all in the loop about what's new, different and exciting in The New 52 – whether it's a character design, cover, splash page or panel.

Back in May, you were first introduced to Count Vertigo. Since then, the villain has been making life difficult for Oliver Queen in the pages of GREEN ARROW. But what’s Count Vertigo’s backstory? What made him the way he is?

In next week’s GREEN ARROW #23.1: COUNT VERTIGO, Count Vertigo’s origin will be revealed. You’ll follow his journey from his homeland of Vlatava and meet his family of disgraced nobles to an experimental orphanage in Vancouver to the present day. Here, you’ll not only witness the horrific and tragic birth of his powers, but you’ll also see what triggered his transition into a super-villain.

From the original series creative team of writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino, Count Vertigo’s one-shot is a dark and twisted look into the psyche of this brutal character who’ll be playing an integral role in GREEN ARROW for a long time to come. Above, take a sneak peek at Andrea Sorrentino’s stunning and gritty interior art and don’t forget to pick up GREEN ARROW #23.1: COUNT VERTIGO when Villains Month launches next Wednesday!
